Linking the Titanic to Phineas and Ferb
By J. Severe This year marks the 100th anniversary of when that cruise ship, the Titanic, seemingly unsinkable, well, sunk. And, to those of you who think that it was just a fictionalized event in the James Cameron film of the same name, well, it's not. Let that sink into your system for a few moments and then continue reading below.
I suppose you are wondering, "Wait, why the heck is this guy talking about that on a wiki for Phineas and Ferb? What relation could that possibly have to this?" Well, I can answer your question. To be honest, I have no idea how those two are related, other than the "That Sinking Feeling" ep the Phinbella shippers made a big deal out of, so I am going to try to think of one.
Have I talked about my distaste for crazed Phinbella shippers before?
I'm sure I have. I'm not too fond of them. They bring back disturbing childhood memories. Don't ask.
Anyway, the Titanic seems like something Phineas and Ferb would build, to be honest. A huge ship that has everyone going "ZOMG WAT A VESSEL! RJDKDTJDJXSR." Except it probably wouldn't crumble after getting hit by an iceberg. It'd probably unleash its rocket boosters and fly off over it. Or, perhaps, if it did get hit and began to crumble, they'd have epic fun preservers to get everyone off rather than have everyone drown, like what happened in real life and the movie...
Hold on, I need a moment. *sniff* The combination of that and my disturbing childhood memories bring tears to my eyes.
MANLY tears, mind you.
For example, that since where the two lovers in the movie are getting away from the ship, and the chick is saved, and the dude freezes and drowns or something... Sadness.
Oh, by the way, *SPOILER*. Wait, it may be too late for that too.
Wait, that's it! Those two lovers can be compared to Ferb and Isabella! Yep, that'd be awesome. Seems like that's the kind of thing Ferb would do. Sacrifice his life to save a fair maiden. Such a gentleman. What a scholar!
In case, you may have noticed, yes, I am a Ferbella shipper. Wait, halt, don't throw your rotten tomatoes! You see, it's on YOU! You didn't think of this back when you read of my stunning lack of fondness for Phinbella shippers. I mean, if I didn't ship that, what would I? Baljinda? No, t'would be the opposite - Ferbella. So you should redirect those tomatoes make at yourself, sir. Or ma'am. Or combination sir-ma'am if you're one of those people.
I'd like to see someone do that, actually. Make a dedicated --
Hey look, a Titanic 3D commercial was on TV while I was waiting that sentence. What a coincidence.
Where was I? Oh yes.
Why doesn't someone make a dedicated fic regarding P&F characters in the place of those from Twilight? It'd be pretty cool. I mean, you see all these Hunger Games stories where characters hack each others to bits but no has the courage or teh power to recreate a dramatic love story in...
Did I say Twilight? Ew.
Disregard that. NOBODY make a dedicated Twilight fic. Or I will keel you.
Anyway, as I was saying - RANT, RANT, RANT.
Good night, people.
Oh, and 20th Century Fox paid me to promote their new Three Stooges movie. It seemingly may have nothing to do with P&F, but it probably does, as we just dissecting Titanic and was able to compare it to P&F. Maybe I'll cover that in the next newsletter. I'm such a genius. Beats me why I don't have a Nobel Prize already.

The Gurgy Hour
Both this and the first meap episode are now P&F classics that will live on as the best of the series.
But which one is better? Both are fantastic episdoes, but which one has the better story, characters, and of course, meap-ness?
Well, that’s what we’re here to find out.
This, is THE CHRONICLES OF MEAP VS MEAPLESS IN SEATTLE
..or “More Than meaps the eye”, if you’re picky.
First, this is all strictly opinion, so don’t go insane if you disagree. Second, MAJOR SPOILER ALERT!
Let’s start with the first thing you think of: the characters
The main characters are Phineas and ferb, of course. In both epsidoes they’re aout the same as you expect. Phineas is the idea man, and Ferb is the silent bob of the group. Neither episode is particularly great for them. Phineas has the usual amusing lines and the likability you expect, but nothing special. But I’ll go with Chronicles here, since Ferb gets that epic space song, so he has an edge. Candace is great in both. She’s fairly normal in both, with the busting thing. In Chronicles she learns a lesson about judging books they their covers, so I think Chronicles could have an Edge. Though Meapless does give her a good moment where she scarifies her cell phone to stop mitch (don’t ask). So I guess sacrifice a bust attempt to save the universe is pretty big. And little funny bits here and there make here good. So I’ll say meapless, by a hair. The supporting characters, like Stacy, don’t have much of a role in either to be compared. Besides, if I had to compare Stacy, I’d explode. So we’ll go with Isabella. In both episodes, we have an emphasis on the gag of Phineas never noticing her. In Chronicles, the gag does further when Phineas builds a cute track and Izzy thinks she is causing a cute interference. This is mostly a gag with a bug punchline at the end. So it’s not much. But in Meapless, she turns out to be the single cutest thing in the universe and harnesses her power to stop mitch. ….yea, clearly Meapless has an edge. Oh, and I don’t think I’ll compare meap. He’s just as epic in both episodes. So our last one to compare is Dr Heinz Doofenshmirtz himself! He isn’t in chronciles too much, he doesn’t show up til like 5 minutes in. He’s mostly there to play the usual gag role, though we do learn about Balooney, and his history of being raised by ocelots. The most notable moment is where he almost says perry is his best friend. Yes In Meapless, he’s part of the plot, as he drinks a cup of this stuff that makes him super cute, which mitch needs to help become the cutest thing in the universe… Don’t ask.
So he has more funny lines and good moments. And of course there’s that scene with Baloony…I’ll talk about that later He has a much larger role in this one, and he gets a lot more focus, and features some more epic moments for him. It’s hard to explain without going into detail, which I need to do later, but I side with meapless. So now for Mitch, the big bad of the episode. In Chronicles, he is a poacher that takes stuff for his space zoo. He’s just a space dude who fights meap, and the gang just intrudes on that. He’s a very fun villain, but kind of simple. But hey, that was the point. In Meapless, he’s bigger and badder. Here, He’s in search of a capsule containing. cutonium, an element that is a physical form of cuteness. As I said before, he wants to be the cutest thing in the world. He’s a lot more of a threat here. He has big robots, Baloony now works for him, he attacks innocent kids, and so on. He has less funny moments this time, making him more of a seriously villain than normal for the series. He’s just awesome. If you made him more complex and a bit more three dimensional, he could be in a classic Disney film ,no problem. So yea, he’s funny in the first one, but he’s more of a good villain in meapless
So I guess Meapless has the better characters. They just get more devolpment, and more chances for time to show why I like them/ Point goes to Meapless in Seattle! The Chronicles of Meap: 0 Meapless In Seattle: 1
Yes, crowning moments. For those not on Tv tropes, this a moment so cool it’s …really cool. There’s crowning moment of funny, awesome, and heartwarming. Both episode have so many of them ,I want to compare both episodes to see which ones give us the better ones
First is crowning moment of funny. Both episodes are very funny. I love the opening of meapless, which you can look up on the canon wiki. It’s clever, in that it makes of exactly how the episode came to exist in the first place. I also love how they get all the bits from the fake trailer in there. So much trolling, so little time..
However, Chronicles has a lot of very funny lines as well. Such as when Buford and baljeet end up in their under wear, agreeing to never speak of this again. Or when Carl is controlling monograms arms, or when Phineas smacks ferb with a robotic hand! …god I love this show.
So yeah, this really depends on taste, but if I HAD to, I’d say Chronicles is a tiny bit funnier, with how big my laughs were By the way, there’s a commentary with doof and monogram which is the funniest thing EVER. It’s funnier than both these episodes combined! Anyway, onto crowning moment of awesome. In Chronicles Candace uses…this baseball shooter thing to stop Mitch, Meap kick’s Mitch’s butt and of course… YO DIGGIN’ MY RIDE FROM OUTER SPACE
Meanwhile, Meapless has Baloony joining doof, Candace’s sacrifice, and Isabella beating Mitch…after we find out she is, scientifically the cutest thing in the world. Bull, that title belongs to Stacy
Well anyway, this one is a bit close, but I’ll say meapless, for the magnitude of it.
And crowning moment of heartwarming isn’t really fair since COM has none while MIS has a couple, so I won’t judge
So Funny belongs to COM, while Awesome goes to meapless. How will I break this tie?
Okay, I have one… BEST CREDIT TRAILER!
Yea, which one had the better teaser at the end?!
Well,.yea meapless had the better credits. It has THE RETURN OF JERRY THE PLATYPUS
Can’t beat that!
Yea, a tad cheat-y, but point goes to meapless, once again.
The Chronicles of Meap: 0 Meapless In Seattle: 2
Yep, we’re comparing songs. Hey, this is Phineas and ferb! Songs are a key part of the show.
Both episodes feature two songs. One main song and one jingle. In Chronicles, the jingle is a Bano-Ru song. It has a weird Japanese tone to I really like…but that one song in SBTY beats this out by far. In Meapless, the jingle is “He’s Mitch” which is short, and cool…but nothing special.
But the big one is the main song. “My ride from outer space” vs “We’re going to war”
We’re going to War is a hilarious cute war song. That’s something I never thought I’d say. It’s a good song, and I like.
My Ride from outer space is an epic rock song with ferb. Yea, you can tell the winner here.
While the war song is cool, I adore the other song a lot more. It’s a great moment for ferb, and it has a rocking beat. So this was easy. Point goes to Chronicle!
The Chronicles of Meap: 1 Meapless in Seattle: 2
So it’s all down to this. Which episode had the better overall story? Well let’s look at the basic storyline for each
In COM,. An alien crashes into Phineas and Ferb’s yard and they must fix his ship. They do, but an evil alien kidnaps him, who turns out to be meap’s nemesis,, is an evil poacher. So Candace must rescue them, and Doofenshmirtz tells that he once had a balloon named Baloon-y who got lost and he makes a machine to bring them back. In the end, Candace saves Phineas and the gang, Meap beats Mitch, and Dr Doof finds out Baloon-y is working for Mitch now and decides he’s not worth it..
So COM has a solid storyline with good action and it leads to some good moments.
In MIS, Meap returns, with Mitch on his tail. We find out that on meap’s planet cuteness was valued above all and someone found a vein of pure cutonium, an element that is a physical form of cuteness, and used it to make himself the cutest thing in the universe, thus gaining power over all. But since absolute cuteness corrupts absolutely, he was drained of his cuteness and all the cutonium on the planet was put in a capsule and launched into space, unknowingly leading to Earth. Mitch followed it to Earth and is now in search of it. Their quest takes them to Seattle, where doof is, for reason I won’t go into. Doof DRINKS the cute stuff, and becomes cute. Mitch kidnaps him to drain the cute-ness and crazy stuff ensues with Phineas and the gang, until ultimately Mitch becomes adorable, but it turns out Isabella is the cutest thing in the world, as she’s cute Inside, so with her help, they stop Mitch and the day is saved. But before that, doof finds balloon-y again, only to see that he still works for Mitch, but he is able to get him to go on doof’s side once again. But as this happens, it becomes too late, Baloon-y is popped. But perry, feeling sorry for doof, rebuilds him, and all is well
…Yea, it’s a good story line.
COM has a simple, but good one that works well. MIS has a really good one that makes you root for the characters and you feel very invested In the plot. The characters develop in small ways, but doof gets it the most with the balloon-y. I have never felt so much for him, before when he mentioned the lawn gnome thing. Okay…I shed a tear at Baloon-y’s death. No joke
So…yeah, MIS does have the better story.
I feel bad giving most of the points to Meapless. They’re both good episodes and are among the series best! But as stands, Meapless has a more interesting, well written story. And so have our winner~
WINNER: MEAPLESS IN SEATTLE!
So there we go. The longest gurgy hour ever! I highly suggest you watch both episodes, and no, I don’t want to see “Meap me In st Louis”. The awesome tracker won’t be able to handle it.
