Premise[]

Set in the Milo Murphy's Law continuity[1] at the beginning of a new summer, genius inventors Phineas, Ferb, and their friends find themselves in a race against time as they are forced to save their home city of Danville as its various neighborhoods disappear into the vast reaches across spacetime in different dimensions never before seen. Meanwhile, their pet Perry the Platypus, who doubles as a secret agent, must form an unlikely ragtag team of allies as he embarks on a dangerous yet crucial mission to find out who or what is sending the city Danville, and to extension their own dimension, to its demise.

Voice cast[]

  • Vincent Martella as Phineas Flynn, one of the titular protagonists who strives to make the best of summer vacation with his step-brother and a master planner.
  • Thomas Sangster as Ferb Fletcher, one of the titular protagonists who shares his step-brother's interests, though rarely speaks much.
  • Ashley Tisdale as Candace Flynn, the titular brothers' older sister who keeps a constant look out on them to make sure they do not get into trouble.
  • "Weird Al" Yankovic as Milo Murphy, a 13 year old who is cursed with Murphy's law yet has a positive outlook on life and uses Murphy's law to his advantage.
  • Sabrina Carpenter as Melissa Chase, Milo's childhood friend who has more experience dealing with Murphy's law more than their other friends.
  • Mekai Curtis as Zack Underwood, Milo and Melissa's newest friend who still needs some time adjusting to Murphy's law.
  • Aimee Carrero as Mariana, one of the four new major characters introduced in the film, who joins Phineas and Ferb's team.
  • Mandy Moore as Havana, one of the four new major characters introduced in the film, who joins Phineas and Ferb's team.
  • Alfred Molina as Professor Destructicon, an evil professor who was once the mentor of Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
  • Idris Elba as Doppler, one of the four new major characters introduced in the film, who joins Perry's team.
  • J. K. Simmons as Hertz, one of the four new major characters introduced in the film, who joins Perry's team.
    • Simmons also provides the voice of Napoleon, the leader of the Bug Trio, in a cameo role.
  • Dee Bradley Baker as Perry the Platypus, the titular brothers' pet platypus who lives a double life as a secret agent as Agent P.
    • Baker also provides the voice of Diogee, the pet of Milo Murphy.
  • Dan Povenmire as Dr. Doofenshmirtz, a former evil scientist who is now an associate of Agent P.
    • Povenmire also provides the voice of Vinnie Dakota, a time traveler that appears to be laid back, but can get very serious when need be.
  • Jeff "Swampy" Marsh as Major Monogram, the boss of Agent P and Dr. Doofenshmirtz.
    • Marsh also provides the voice of Balthazar Cavendish, a time traveler and Dakota's partner that may come off as standoffish but cares a lot more than he shows.
    • He also provides the voice of Cavenpuss, a human-platypus hybrid containing the DNA of Agent P and Cavendish, in a minor role.

Production[]

Development[]

The film had been in development for a while alongside Phineas and Ferb the Movie: Candace Against the Universe. Based on various rough drafts for an unreleased Phineas and Ferb theatrical film, the film was originally under production at Disneytoon Studios before it closed its doors on June 28, 2018. Production went on a temporary hiatus before resuming production at the main Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2019.

Director Bowser & Jr. said that the main reason why characters from Milo Murphy's Law appear in the film is because "the movie would not only once again bring together old fans and new fans of Phineas and Ferb, but is also supposed to be a love letter to the extended universe of Phineas and Ferb, which includes the show Milo Murphy's Law."

Casting[]

Upon the film's announcement, it was revealed that the series' main cast of Vincent Martella, Thomas Sangster, Ashley Tisdale, Dee Bradley Baker, Dan Povenmire, and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh would reprise their main characters in starring roles. This would be Sangster's first time voicing Ferb since the post-series special, "O.W.C.A. Files" as he had not voiced the character due to past scheduling conflicts. It was later revealed that Aimee Carrero, Mandy Moore, Idris Elba, and J. K. Simmons are set to star in undisclosed roles while "Weird Al" Yankovic will feature in the film reprising his role as the titular Milo Murphy from Milo Murphy's Law with Sabrina Carpenter and Mekai Curtis reprising their respective characters as well.

Series cast members Caroline Rhea, Richard O'Brian, Alyson Stoner, Bobby Gaylor, Maulik Pancholy, Jack McBrayer, Mitchell Musso, Kelly Hu, Olivia Olson, and Tyler Alexander Mann are expected to reprise their respective characters in minor roles. Milo Murphy's Law cast members including Kate Micucci, Diedrich Bader, Pamela Aldon, Chrissie Fit, Greg Cipes, Django Marsh, and Mark Hamill are also expected to reprise their roles in a similar capacity. Django Marsh is also cast as the third voice for the character of Django Brown, whom the character was named after.

On May 29, 2020, Lil Nas X and Lin-Manuel Miranda were confirmed to be joining the cast as themselves alongside Alfred Molina and Alan Tudyk in undisclosed roles. On July 31, 2020, Molina's role was confirmed as the voice of Professor Destructicon, a character who previously went unvoiced in the series, in a major role. It was also revealed that Nas X and Miranda's cameos would be done in live action photography and would cameo alongside other celebrities, with Elba, Hamill, Simmons, and Yankovic themselves being part of the cameo list while already having voice roles in the film. On August 8, 2020, it was confirmed that Ming-Na Wen will both reprise her Phineas character Dr. Hirano in a cameo role as well as also make a live action appearance.

Animation[]

During its production at Disneytoon Studios, director Bowser & Jr. described that the entire film will stay similar to the original series, with "stylistic animation quirks that are more similar to theatrical 2D animated movies." After production moved to Walt Disney Animation Studios and a new draft of the film's story was curated, the medium changed from primarily traditional 2D animation, to a style akin to mixed media. Bowser & Jr. described that the already existing characters would remain in their original designs and animated format, but "the world around them would look completely different in a variety of art and animation styles across various parts of the movie."

Music[]

Series composer Danny Jacob is set to compose the score for the film with Martin Olson co-writing with Jacob with a few of the film's songs. New renditions of the Phineas and Ferb theme, "Today Is Gonna Be A Great Day," and the theme song of Perry the Platypus, were confirmed to be part of the film's soundtrack.

In May 24, 2020, Christopher Willis of Mickey Mouse fame joined the film to score alongside Jacob. His wife Elyse Willis, who co-wrote several songs from the Mickey Mouse shows, will also write songs along with Jacob, Olson, and her husband.

The announcement of Lil Nas X's addition to the cast revealed that he will also be creating a new original song for the film.

Release[]

The film is currently scheduled to release on June 16, 2023, replacing an untitled animated film by Pixar Animation Studios.
